My car is a 1969 coupe. I would like to time trial the car and I was thing of replacing my worn out stock seats with a set of Corbeau Seats: A4 seats. I am 5’11”. A few questions.
I was going to get the seats with a few options and wondered if anyone had purchased these seats.
1) If so did you use the Corbeau mounting hardware or for additional mounted them directly to the floor.
2) Also, has anyone purchased the seats with the Shave Seat Base
3) Has anyone purchased the WIDE SEAT option? Will it still fit?
Any insight on the Corbeau Seats A4 would be appreciate
I have the standard wide A4's in a 76. Had to bolt them to the floor directly for head room. I might be shaving 1inch out of the bottom cushion to make some more room. Currently my helmet just clears the T-top liner. Not sure if the wide seat version would fit in our cars. I 'm 5'11" 180 and have room to move in the standard seats.
Good point about wearing a helmet. That is why I was ordering it with the shaved seat option and the opening for the anti-submarine harness to go through.
As far as the wide seat, a friend recommended it for the passenger seat. I fit fine in the regular seat. But before I order it, I want to be sure it fits.
I can't say with certainty that the wide seat will fit. It's usually fairly tight with the standard seat in an early C3. The arm rests usually hit the side bolsters. Just FYI, we offer specially designed brackets that are lower than the Corbeau brackets so you can continue to use the sliders. Our design is at least 3/4" lower than Corbeaus and sit at about the height of the stock seats. I'm 6'1" and fit with the T-tops on and a helmet.
I use the Corbeau LG1 seats in my '78. They are a snug fit in width - a wide seat would absolutely not fit. I mounted the seats to the stock tracks which I modified to lower the seats a bit, but still retained the ability to adjust fore and aft. Further, the seats can still be tilted forward or aft to set the seat angle.
I'm 5' 10.5" tall; with a helmet worn when autocrossing, the helmet rubs the underside of the T-top slightly even with the liner removed. However, the seat support is incredible when racing; as an old fighter pilot, I like being solidly connected with my ride!

I was considering the Corbeau LG1, but went with the A4 for 2 reasons. The first is that it is guaranteed to fit. The second is I went to a shop that had a display and I actually got to sit in the A4 and found it to be a nice seat. Better than my deteriorating 1969 seats. But after 42 years, what can you expect.
I was hoping for some more feedback from anyone who has the A4’s. Did anyone get the shaved seat option??
Has anyone used the Speed Direct brackets? If they are 3/4" lower than Corbeau brackets and sit at about the height of the stock seats. Then I am wondering if I need the shaved seat option?
Looks like you were right. I emailed Corbeau after your post. I go this back:
Guy,
“We do have custom brackets for the C3 and they are about as low as they can get, essentially flat. We have done a lot of A4's in there and have never had any issues.
Best Regards,
Corbeau”
Question I have now is, are the brackets from Speed Direct different in a significant way from Corbeau?
Please allow me to clarify the difference in our bracket designs. Believe me we would have preferred to just buy pre-made brackets from Corbeau but we found them to be inadequate (they sit far too tall). Corbeau makes awesome seats but their brackets for the C3's aren't up to par if you are anything over 5'9" tall.
Here is a photo of our bracket design.
Where you see the allen head bolt is where Corbeau mounts their seat tracks and then their bracket bolts to those tracks. This stacks up to at least 3/4". We tuck the tracks into the empty area between the seat rails and then attach the floor mount brackets to just clear the bolt heads on the seat rails. Additionally, the seat bases are shaved to get the seat to the same level as the stock seats. This configuration will accommodate someone as tall as 6'2" or perhaps 6'3" depending on how long your legs/torso are.
I liked the Speed direct set up too. Since seat height is an issue, I pulled the trigger and went for the shaved seat option and their special lower bracket. Randy was great to deal with and gave me a discount as a forum member.
I was going to put in a new G-Force 6 point harness, but they are backordered until Oct. Seems a lot of backordered stuff from manufacturers shifting to China. You can but the Sparco, German made at twice the price.
Depending how big a problem it is to get the seats in and out, I may put the seats in, have and updated roll bar put in to take out the triangular roll bar that cuts in front of the passenger seat.
Anyone done a Corbeau seat install? How long and how bad a job?
