300rw is my goal..nice sounding #.. as described in sig my setup will be: GM 186 heads p&p, 268H comp cam, headers, 600cfm carter carb, 2.5 dual exhaust, HV dist.and coil, rpm performer mani. on my 77 L-48 4 spd.
I think that it's going to take more cylinder head to get 300 HP. Take a look at the Performance Registry. Most of the cars displaying in the range of 300 RWHP have higher flowing cylinder heads, similer camshaft, more carb, and the same exhaust.
You will need a lot more to reach 300 at the rear wheels. You need a high lift/duration cam and aftermarket heads that flow very well. And higher compression. Or you can stroke it to a 383 or 406....
Your current set-up will probably give you 210-230 at the rear wheels at best.
thanks for nothing! just kidding.. I thought I was pushin it. I really wanted to go N/A. The 300goal was to be able to out perform ZZ4's and LT1's. What do these put out rwhp? I already have all the parts I listed .. and as fare as a budget...I dont have one = $0. I got the spring time slow corvette blues.
TedH, Im not sure what the 186's are comparable too, but I do know there one of the better stock heads. When p&p, I hear they compete with present aftermarket heads pretty well.
Have you ever run your car in Pomona? It sems like every time I go there it's like 95 degrees w/humidity. I think the elevation is pretty high also. Not the best environment for horsepower....it makes me want to :U :U
