Default GM HEI or Chinese knock off

The Chinese knock offs have major problems. Also, try connecting the timing light to an external battery. Make sure the carbon "sticks" in the sensor clamp are not cracked

What would cause a stumble and simultaneous jump in timing (or a jump in timing causing a simultaneous stumble?

My guess is
1. your distributer weights are jumping around and you set the initial timing with them stuck partially advanced so when they jump back to the normal, no-advance position, the timing moves accordingly and the rpm drops correspondingly.
or
2. you have way too much end play in the dist shaft allowing the dist gear to ride up and dowm on the helical cam gear. If its an aluminum body, end play should be no more than 15 thou. Prob have to pull it out to get accurate measurement. Shims are available.

One thing I would do is pull the top cap off the coil itself, note the red wire and the yellow/white wire to the coil that is tach out and BAT on the cap itself....note the coil wire is crimped to the connecting clips....scrape that varnish off the wires, and solder.....

I have caught one pants down as being open on the crimp connect, no reason you can't have one intermittent.....
