Default My 406 Dyno results

Finally had my new 406 build Dyno tested yesterday. Couldn't wait to share the results.

Best pull produced 554 HP @ 6000 rpm and 538 TQ @ 4900 RPM

I don't know how to post images but you can see the Dyno sheet @ the link below.

Pretty happy with the results, can't wait to install that motor with my new T56 Magnum and 3.73 gears.

Outstanding!

What are your engine specs.? I curious because it's hard to get big power without big dollars.

That's impressive and yes it would be expensive. I built a budget 406 that made that kind of power and it was still 6-7 grand.

With those gears you will spin the tires in 3rd gear

If that's an OD tranny you don't need those gears they are just torque multipliers and you have plenty of torque what is your first gear ratio ?

Your bsfc was high in upper rpm. You need a larger dia high speed air bleed and smaller secondary jetting. Your oil temp must not have been hooked up?

Tell me about your cam and motor specs?

Nice job, as large displacement SB set up's are really my favorite, being 100 lbs less weight over the front axle than BB's. Strange combo to get right though, as been is some some 406's that flat out screamed, and other's that were pigs. You certainly got yours right though, in fact got everything right with 3.73 axle and Tremec. My hats off to you on that build, and somehow think you're gonna enjoy driving a bit more from now on.

1st is Ok with the 373 if you already bought it. I had a 3.08 rear in my 406ci and would flat out smoke the tires in second gear at 40mph. My TKO 600 has a lower 1st gear at 2.87, I just love my setup when I'm on the highway passing everyone at 80mph @ 1800 RPM. I got 24 mpg with my 427ci on the highway and haven't done a city test yet.

Your gonna love the powa

Thanks for the positive response. I had the pleasure of working with a top quality engine builder who guided me through planning and parts selection. The dyno test validated his approach and exceeded my expectations. Looking forward to driving this combo. Expect to spin the wheels in 3rd gear.

One thing I'm a bit curious on though. I actually have a C6 ZO6, and the T56 Tremec in this has 0.72 fifth & 0.50 sixth top gear ratios. Amazing what GM's doing here, as the thing actually get's over 25 mpg highway. Wondering where you got the T56 with lower od ratios.

If you can spin the tires in third gear, you don't have enough rear tire!

When I hopped up my 98 Vette it was hoplessly over geared with a .50 6th gear ZF6 I installed a 4.10 to make it useful. My 434 equiped 79 Vette had 4.11 gears for 20 years. This spring I put in 3.55 and it kind of over geared my tko 600 .64 OD My motor unlike MotorHeads does not run the best below 1800 - 2000 and it forces me to drive faster than about 65 -70 in OD.

Dyno test looks impressive,...Great job with the build!

I am curious about idle vacuum. My 406 is built "old school", 254@.050 flat solid cam, and I manage to idle in gear (3000 stall) with 6-7 inches of vacuum. In the future, I may knuckle under and go roller cam,..but not for a while yet.

FWIW
I went with 295 55 15 MT drag radials to stop the wheel spin in third.

Bet his vacuum is just fine.
ran a solid roller in a 350, same LSA but 10 deg more duration and held 10 in at idle stopped the car fine. Step up to the roller, driveability AND big power.

After market T56 Magnums are available in 2 options. 0.72 fifth & 0.50 sixth or 0.80 & 0.62.
