I would sure appreciate knowing what you've used (with success) to seal the Hooker sidepipe style headers to the heads (350L48). I tried the Mr. Gasket soft copper gaskets over the weekend and every single port is leaking. I didn't think to size up the gasket to the header when the headers were off the car but bolted up, it looks like the raised copper bead is to small - falls inside the header tube. Are there two different size gaskets ? I could see how the headers might be larger than the scrawny ports on my heads.

Well, using the copper gaskets was your first mistake. They don't seal for poopie unless both mating surfaces are perfectly flat and even then it's not a guarantee. Use the Mr. Gasket #5902, it's a medium race port exhuast gasket that has a metal screen impregnated into it to help prevent blow out, and it's still "gives" to form a better seal.

I used Percy's dead soft aluminum gaskets on the last 3 header installs on small blocks. Not one has started to leak yet(knock on wood), I also used stage 8 locking bolts. Previous post had a good point make sure both head and header are straight and flat.
I also used the Percy and they leaked..Can't figure that one out for I have only heard good stuff on them. Used the one that came with my sidepipe headers and they worked fine..Go figure

I used plain old fel-pro paper gaskets. no complaints whatsoever. The big thing to make sure is that you're using some high quality ARP header bolts.
Why spend all that money on aluminum or copper gaskets if they're not going to fit right?
