AC Issue

The belt on the comprssor broke. It knocked off the power steering belt. How do i tell if the ac compressor locked up?

You can grab the clutch on the front and see if it turns, you should be able to turn it seperate from the belt pulley. If you can turn it, try a new belt and see what happens.

Make sure you grab the center part where the clutch is, not the outer part where the belt groove is. The clutch should move in both directions. If it moves replace the belt. If it doesnt check the orifice filter for metal shavings which would mean you are shopping for a new compressor.
