Default Sparkplug Wires - Make Your Own?

Anyone make thier own custom sparkplug wires? Source of parts? Comparative costs? Quality of end results?

Thanks.

Bud.

Can't say I made my own but bought Moroso wires with no ends on them. I cut to the length I needed and put the ends on. This way I got exactly the size needed. I did this on another car that was not mine and it los much nicer than having long wires hanging all over the engine.

I use the MSD 8.5mm Superconductors....Part # 31229.

Worked great in my car, routing the wires behind and underneath just like they come stock. Easy to do, and comes with the crimp tool as well. I can't remember the price, but since I'm a cheap bastard, it couldn't have been that bad......

I've used the Taylor Spiro-Pro Spark Plug Wire Sets on a number of Corvettes recently.

High quality 8mm wires and reasonably priced. They come with the spark plug boots on them and I can easily insert them behind the motor mounts before feeding them up to the distributor where I cut them to the correct length before installing the distributor ends. It saves a lot of time and I don't have a bunch of extra wire that needs hiding.

They're also available in a few different colors but I use the black and they look almost exactly like original.

Good luck... GUSTO

I buy the Accels and put the ends on them with that two piece tool you put one part in the vice and lay the wire and connector on it and then lay the other part of the tool on it and smack it with a hammer.

I assembled my own, but I didn't actually manufacture them. Bought the components from http://thehotrodcompany.com/shopnow/...&filterkey=bsp

My Vertex magneto needs solid core wires. Spiral core, carbon core radio suppression wire won't do. The 7mm copper core fit into the cap perfectly. I also bought the 90 degree Rajah terminals. Later on I also installed heat protection sleeving where the wires get close to my headers. But hotrodcompany didn't offer what I wanted so I bought elsewhere.

Default Me too.

Like most others here i trim mine to fit also. Once u change the exh manifolding on a corvette u need to reroute the plug wires and custom cut length is the only way to go.

Nothing special 'bout the crimp. Just get a Jeg's or NAPA combo trim/stripping and crimp tool along with extra crimps and practice a couple crimps on the old wires. Strip enough insulation to lay the conductor back under the brass (or SS) crimp and make a crim over it.

Hope this helps,
