I just dug up my old craftsman dwell tach that I used to use back in high school. (Actually looks pretty high quality by today's standards) Problem is I am not sure how I used to hook it up or even whether it can be use with the "modern" HEI ignition on my Vette. It has 2 cords, one black that I know is grounded and a green. Can anyone tell me where the green connects?
I am trying to remember my instruction for the meter are in another city right now. I think the green connects to the negative side of the coil (the lead that goes to the points).
MIKER- Its not so much that. I was just doing some carb. work and running in and out of the car to check idle got me to thinking, "don't I have an old dwell tach around here somewhere?" Found it but forgot how to hook it up.
I was just curious. I knew that dwell meters were for points style distributors so I knew that you just needed the tach function. Pointless reply I suppose :yesnod:
A while back I purchased an inductive timing light with a built in tach and adjustable advance. The tach feature is really nice to have.
It is an Equus brand. They sell them at Automotive Tool Express for $95 http://shop.store.yahoo.com/autotool...intimlig1.html
Miker- I still have the dwell/tach from the old days and a craftsman timing light. The light is a big heavy chrome thing- no plastic on it at all. I hate to part with it but I just went to the site and looked at that light. Nice! I didn't even know they made lights with the tach built in. I guess I may want to come into the new millenium at some point...or at least into the 1980's! :D
