Default 1977 corvette Tach reading

I just rebuilt my engine and transmission on my '77 vette. When I turn it on the tachometer isn't getting a reading. Even if I rev the engine I am getting no reading. Anyone know why this might be?

The tach has a wire that connects at the dist. Check.

Which color is it? There's a lot of loose wires.

Probably brown, it goes to a filter on the firewall & connects near the power to dist. & has a similar black connector.

It is connected. And there seems to be a black metal thing that looks like a basic ground connection. And from this black cylinder thing, there is one connected to the dist. and one cable that's just torn off.

That sounds like the filter though it seems mine was silver. One wire came off mine & I just got a new one while they were avail. (w/o trying to solder though I have an iron). Try to solder. You can bypass the filter.

Is there a way I can post a picture to show you? I'm not sure I completely understand this cabling.

Does it look like this:

Under the pic you can click on Product Illustration. That is the way it hooks up.

When you turn the key on is the tach going straight to Zero?

In the picture above, unplug the brown wire from the distributor and then from the tach harness wire. Plug this end into the distributor... see if the tach works. If it works you need a filter, if it fails you need to post again.

There are tons of tach help pictures in Tech Pictures section of our web site.
http://willcoxcorvette.com/advanced_...t+%23&x=46&y=5

In the Repair and install help section you'll find several diagnostic help file on how to figure out the problem.
http://willcoxcorvette.com/advanced_...s=tach&x=0&y=0

One that will help you the most in knowing where/what the tach filter is is this one: http://willcoxcorvette.com/repairand...lp.php?hID=314 It shows a picture of a original filter and also tells you how to install the new one.

And if it progress's past a wire problem to the tach board, you'll find we have a video on U tube that will help you install this board.

Yeah after looking through all of these posts I got it working. My tach filter was ripped and I just soldered it back on. Thanks to everyone for your help with. this. One more question. My turn signal flashers seem to be busted. It turns on but wont flash or make the little noise. I replaced the flasher fuse by the passenger side panel and still nothing. Any ideas? Everything lights up. Just wont blink or flash like turn signals are supposed to.

Do all the bulbs light up. If you have a bad bulb the flashers will not "Flash". If the bulbs all light up then you can eliminate a bad ground.

Everything lights up. Inside turn signal triangle lights in the dash. Outside turn signal lights turn on too. I put the blinker on left or right and it stays on. Wont blink or flash. Either left or right same outcome. Emergency flashers do flash tho. Just not turn signals. Any idea as to why?

Which relay is that? Is there a way to fix it or would I have to replace it?
