Default Yet another power window thread (Yay!)

Right about now I feel like ripping the entire window motor assembly out and going for a good old fashioned manual window lifter...this is driving me mental!

Ok, rant over - here is the deal. I've search through the forums - and online, but haven't quite found what I'm looking for. The driver's side window is the issue here - the motor has power and will attempt to lift the window. However, about 2-3 inches from the down position, it will stop. I can wiggle the window back and forth - and if I'm very lucky, I can get it to come loose and the motor will lift it all the way up. This however has proven impossible as of late...

I've got the interior of the door removed (including the access plate) but I can't see anything obvious causing problems.

Am I looking at a bad gear on the motor - or is there something else that's keeping the window from coming up by itself? All the instructions I've found for removing the motor call for the window to be half-way down, but that isn't going to happen here unfortunately...

Any help is appreciated as always.

The only luxury item besides A/C I ever cared about was PW. Now I just want them to go up & down. Our PW are very reliable!

Look closely at the regulator gear, not the motor gear. The factory gear was just a little too soft so it's a common issue.
I suggest a stronger reg. gear like Mid America no. 602-129.

I'm assuming I have to disassemble everything to get at this gear - or is this something I can do a visual inspection on with the hardware still in the door?

Yes, you can look closely at the big regulator gear in the door.
Note if it was the small motor gear it would not work right for 1 turn of the motor. My regulator gear had only a few bad teeth.

Alright, cool - I'll take a look tomorrow

Btw, how much of a pain is it to replace this gear? I've read some horror stories online about window motor work and I'm wondering if it would be worth taking it to a shop and having it done there...

Easy, but be careful of the spring. Beer after. Note there are two holes to line up for a bolt to hold. I did not do that. I did mine & just took it to a welder to replace gear, no other parts needed & done in a few min.
Something I did was lube the new gear & the old pass. one w/ white lithium grease.
