We just finished rebuiliding the engine. Bored out .030, new pistons, and other new stuff. Ever since the rebuild the temp has run about 200 deg. Under load it will go up but then settles back to 200 deg. I have a 180 deg. thermostat and a new radiator. I also installed a high flow water pump. I doubled checked the water temp with a meat thermometer and the gauge is correct. I'm thinking of attaching an electric fan to the radiator. Anything else I should look at? Is driving at 200 deg. hard on the engine?

Thanks

are you missing all the foam seals between the radiator and the radiator support? Do you have a thermostatic fan clutch and if so is it working correctly?

All the seals are in and tight. Fan and clutch are original and working as when I took them out.

First 200 is not hot, many cars have thermostats that open at 190-195.
Hot summer in traffic w/ A/C can be around 200. You can check for the large spring in lower hose.
There should be a small black dam under front, if hot at speed.
The Pace Car ft. dam/spoiler works & it stays cool at high speed.
