Default Attention: horn experts!!

Ok, just replaced the horn relay and upper contacts on my '75 with tilt/tele. Checked the continuity from the green relay to the horn -OK. Check the horn with a jumper to the battery -OK. Checked the continuity from the black lead at the relay to the harness before the steering column -OK. Took the cover off the column and tried to check continuity from the black at the harness before the steering column to the contact, or spring on the lower contact - no continuity. If I touch the steering column near the spring at the lower contact it completes the circuit. I am not good with understanding schematics from the manual. Anyone have suggestions?? Thanks much!

Do you mean when you touch the lower contact spring no current, but when you touch the outer casing on the column there is?

If I remember right, current goes through the lower contact spring to upper contact. When you push the upper contact, it closes it and goes through column casing to somewhere(sorry, i forget where, maybe ground). The relay works like this: current is always going through relay. When upper contact is closed, it grounds out relay and sends current to horn (at least i think that's how it works).

I'm pretty sure the horn button completes the circuit by creating the ground needed.

I just redid mine. The horn button completes the circuit on the relay. This energizes the relay, allowing 12v to pass through the relay directly to the horn. I think that a 75 is the same as mine on the circuit. Orange wire=12v constant. Blk=ground through horn contact. Green=12v from relay to dual horns. A lot of the time, one of the horns causes most of the problems that you have with the circuit. My left horn was shorted. This caused a severe current drain which would blow fuses.
