Hello, attempting to replace a new power steering pulley on my new power steering pump. It is a cast iron Hiperf pulley I bought from Zip corvette parts. This set up has a woodruff key and 7/8 nut to secure the pulley on to the pump shaft. What was obvious to me was that the shaft will turn as I am attempting to secure the nut. Does anyone know the best method to properly install the pulley using the supplied locking nut. Some suggestions were heating the pulley to slide it on, then secure with the nut using an impact wrench once it is cool. Or just slide it on enough to show at least 5 threads and then use an impact wrench to drive the nut/pulley on.
I believe it stands for Assembly Instruction Manual, GM pubication showing how things fit together but wont tell you how to specifics as far as I know.
I agree on getting some kind of repair manual with pictorals. My dad bought some Motor's repair manuals, and would've been lost without these as a kid. An impact wrench and pullers are always good tools to own. Think you've got it bad, can tell you what a genius I am. When replacing the belt on a modern transverse FWD car, decided to jam a pry bar on the P/S pulley. Thing ended up made out of bakelight press fit, and busted a chunk out of it. Had order a new one, and rent a special puller. Point beeing, assemble as much information as possible.
