I have a chance to pickup a keisler 5 speed that has about 5000 miles on it. The trans was in a 69 camaro which the owner removed to install a auto O/D.
The trans has what appears to be all the parts, output shaft shifter and the clutch and pressure plate and bellhouseing which was used in the camaro.
My question is will this trans work in a 69 vette without to much trouble? I guess I I have concerns about the shifter location. From what I have been able to find out it looks like the shifter is centered on the trans about 16.75" back. Does anyone know if this is correct for a vette? From the pictures I have been able to find here on the forum it looks like the trans for the vettes are offset to the drivers side. Is this correct?
My vette is a 4 speed now and I'm looking at getting the od for the milage and better 1st gearing.
If the shifter is centered on teh trans (i.e. comes directly out of the top of the trans) then no - you will need an offset shifter or have the tailshaft modified to offset the shifter properly - otherwise you will be cutting a hole in your floor.
Give Keilser a call, or wait for them to chime in here. They can probably sell you the correct shifter for your car, if its easily replaceable. it could end up costing you more in the long run.

Any help , Thanks
It will be tough to make that position work with your Corvette. What color is the shift tower? Can you post a pic of the trans?
I have attached pictures below that show the proper Corvette shifter position and how the mid plate gets modified for extra tunnel clearance on TKO.
Also, the shifter mod you see is not a bolt on and requires trans disassembly for custom machine work. You could send the trans here for the mod but it will add $400 + shipping both ways to your price tag.
Have a friend that did the Keisler 5 speed TKO perfect fit kit new to his car a few years back. His cars a 79' L-82 4 speed 3.73 axle. He's not exactly Mr wrench, but did the whole thing by himself in a single afternoon. Sure is nice when you just open a box and everythings there. What kind of money you talking for the used Camaro TKO. Suppose if you can get it for next to nothing, then maybe worth the effort cobbling things together. As mentioned, shifter and probably custom drive shaft too.
Looks like the shifter location is the killer. I thought I read where someone welded a modified shifter arm to make this work. But it looks like the best answer is the sidemounted shifter. Taking into the cost of the trans and the mods that would have to be done, going this way is not worth it. I'll just safe some $$ and go with a kit version sometime in the future. Thanks guys.
Get that piggy bank cranking, as my buddy with the Keisler TKO 5 speed 0.70 od set up and 3.73 axles, now cruising 70 mph highway at 2400 rpm. Pretty darn sweet.

A modified shifter might allow it to exit the proper location in your console, but it will not fix the new hole in your floor. Perfect example is the TKO swap I did in my car, I finished my swap about the time the keisler setup became available.
If you cannot bring yourself to cutting the floor then the keisler modification or one just like it from another vendor is your only solution with that trans.
