I have a 1980 L82 vette and i put a Blue Print 383 stroker crate motor from summit and now i want to switch out my transmission,,,I have been told something to the effect of 700 r4 automatic with a 2400 stall converter as well as a switch to go into overdrive when needed......What are you guys Pro opinion?
About an even split in here with the 700 r4 and the 200 4r. Both are 3 speed plus OD, the 200 has a bit better OA gear ratio I believe, longer legs. The 200 goes in with fewer mods, no need to change the drive shaft. Both will require a different crossmember, both require some electrics for the Lockup. Both require shifter mods. Some older 700's need more mods to handle the HP than the later 200's. All that said, I built my 200 with a 2500 stall converter, program kit, new bearings, heavy clutches and a whole lot of other stuff all in for around $800
Yes Sir; I have been doing research on this same change. The first question you want to ask yourself, ( How Much Money Can I Afford To Spend?? ) The 700 R 1988 & later, is my choice. SIXFOOTER is right on the money. You can buy a kit, or just find a 1982 mount set up, with the bracket off the pan, the drive shaft W/yoke. I don't know what year your engine is, but make sure you use the correct flywheel, if it is a late model. There are several wiring choices you can buy, get the one that best fits the pocket book. geusmano74 has the right idea, if you have the pockets for it. Have a great day. Gene
