700r4 3-4 clutch
OK, from second look at fluid and taking tranny out I find the 3-4 clutch pack is most likely fried, will find out tmrw hopefully, I"m doing this myself...
well I bought the clutches and when taking valve body apart and starting to read up on this thing, I find a 3-4 clutch accumulator valve, piston with spring....I"m wondering if I should take that spring out, making the shift harder.....into 3 and 4 gears.....I know from previous tranny experiences years ago that cutting or removing/blocking the accumulator valve would sharpen hell out of the shift.....any ideas anyone????
Thanks...

If you have the valvebody off you should consider a TransGo kit, it does something similar to the 3-4accumulator (reverse piston and new spring). I have a scan of the instructions at http://iotech.no/corvette/div/TransgoSK700G.zip
probuilt just posted about 3-4 clutch:
I use 8 clutches in the 3-4 pack, Borg-Warner Hi-Energy's (.080 thick), then .128 top & bottom pressure plates, .062 snap ring, use .060 or .080 steels to arrive at about .040 clearence. If you use the Kolene steels, "polish" them with 600 grit or 1000 grit in direction of rotation only, just enough to remove the rough surface. The Kolene is .005-.006 deep, you're taking only .0005 off at most. Alto says that in the near future there should be "mirror finish" steels available. This what I do to all my Performance buildups. If you are going to road race this unit I would install 7 clutches and the thickest steels possible for better heat dissipatation, due to the 2-3 & 3-2 shift cycling. I hope this helps?
It would really suck to get that trans all back together and installed and find that something doesn't work right. I had my unit bench built ny a pro for $550.- He did a great job. I acutally get rubber at WOT on my 2-3 shift, that really freaks people out on the freeway :D
Good Luck !
And they only recommend Borg Warner soft parts.
