Default 81 ignition shield

Hi...I'm new here and this is a great forum. I just bought a 1981 Corvette and the ignition shield is gone (the shield that covers the HEI). I bought a used one but not sure how it mounts. Are there some brackets it mounts to, kind of like the older style shields have? The engine is not original so things are probably missing...lol. Pics would be appreciated...thanks!

There is a ring which holds the tops of the individual plug wires. Plastic ignition shield clips to the ring. Assembly instruction manual shows the ground cable.

Shield and ring are available from the aftermarket providers.

My car still has the ring on it, I've thrown lots of them away in the past..lol. I didn't know if there was any brackets that went to it or not. Thanks for the info.

The shield just slides into place and wedges itself between the firewall and plug wires and it sits on top of distributor with a sort of clip to the air filter cover. The ground wire goes to the right rear bottom valve cover stud bolt. The hood opening cable goes snaps into the two plastic retainers.

Have to be careful when installing it that you do not pull the +12V BAT wire out of the distributor cap; pull the vacuum line out of the MAP sensor; disconnect the headlight vacuum line; disconnect the tach filter wire.....

Bottom line....it is a bit of a pain to put in. Be sure this is the last thing you put in.

If the engine will not start after putting installing it....check the +12V BAT wire to the distributor.
