I intend to put in an aftermarket HEI distributor in my '68 - therefore I need to run a non resistive lead from IGN+ to under the hood now - while the dash is apart.
The wiring diagram in the AIM is frustrating.
Can I conclude that PINK is IGN when key is ON?
If so - there's an extra pink pigtail coming off the back of the ignition switch- does anyone know where to get a connector to plug into it?
I wired mine to the fuse box. There is a ign port available there, on the 73 at least. This allows me to simply reach down there and unplug it as a theft deterrent. Pink off the switch sounds right, but I would energize it and test it to be sure.

good luck!
I kinda don't wanna go off the fuse box - particularly since I seem to have an extra pink lead already set up.

My vote would be for the 12 pink pigtail coming off the ign switch.
The IGN spade in the fuse box is fused by the DIR SIG / BACK UP fuse , if that fuse blows the engine shuts down.
(If you were going to use that circuit you could very easily tap into it on the pink wire that feeds the backup lamp switch for 4 speeds , its on the engine side very close to where the throttle cable comes through.)

Actually, upon further investigation, that #12 pink pigtail is actually supposed to be hooked to a radio noise suppression capacitor located on the back of the tach (it was just unplugged).
That said... if all that cap is supposed to do is stop a "click" when you turn IGN on and off - screw it - I'll use it and live with one click.
Opinion?

PS: You knew it was #12 wire. You've SEEN it before - yes?

I was looking on my diagram, which shows a 12 pink and a 12 brown. I was thinking the 12 brown went to the cap.
I worked on the buzzer part of a 68 ign switch around a year ago but I can't remember the actual wires.
In the AIM it's the pink that goes to the cap - and the plug types confirm it.
That said.. all it can possibly do is stop a click on IGN when switched. The coil and points have their own caps.
