Default Can the flywheel be changed without pulling motor?

1982: project car where PO installed starter (unshimmed) then used/ground for unknown time period until fly teeth are rounded.

I never did it in a vette but take 3 inch long bolts and replace them on each side of the bell housing. Support the engine with a block of wood under the oil pan. Unbolt the torque converter and the rest of the housing bolts, drive shaft and trans mount. Side the trans back on the 3 inch bolts and that should give you enough room to get the flywheel out.

Yes, I replace my flexplate a couple of months ago on my 81. The biggest hassle I had was getting the transmission slide back enough to work and sliding it back in place once I was done. Just be sure to support everything very well. Don't be in a hurry and take your time.

No 82 had a flywheel. All 82s are automatics therefore all had flexplates. We knew what you meant.

I use ready rod (all thread) and ground slots in one end to use a screw driver for my 3" bolts, been using the same set for years. I also use a cheap ATV scissor jack with shims to support the transmission be it manual or auto.
