When I pulled the rotors, had a broken spring fall out of one of the emergency brakes. Took them both apart, and found the other didn't have the top spring either. Cable was corroded so bad it woudn't move. So, I ordered a stainless kit from VBandP.
Somehow, I've managed to get one back together. So, I understand what needs done. But I'm having one heck of a time getting the spring and keeper on the first shoe on the other side!
I pulled the nuts off so I could pull the dust cover out enough to replace the pins with the ones from the kits - the one on the rear that is captive in there and you can't get to without.
I have the magic tool and everything. Does anyone have any suggestion on what to do to get this thing together?? I've already tried every cuss word I can think of!
I saw a thread here where the poster compressed the spring and tied it with dental floss, put it in place, engaged the pin to the retainer washer, then cut the floss. That may work for you.
You can use something like black RTV to hold the pins forward. It may help to shorten the pin spring.
A headlight spring tool is said to be good to put the upper springs on.
You need to specify "magic tool".
