Dynomax headers glowing in the dark ?
The short block is not rebuilt but everything is sound in it with good oil pressure and compression, no blowby.
I know that a rich mixture as well as a lean mixture will cause headers to glow and also timing will cause the problem but, I think I have eliminated those by trying 2 different (both brand new) distributors and 2 different (again both new. 1 Holley 1 Edelbrock) carbs.
I have tried jetting both lean as well as rich and have adjusted initial timing from 4 up to somewhere around 36 and even tried setting timing at full advance between 32 & 38 degrees without regard to initial and nothing helps.
I have the heads back off as of last night and placed a dial indiacator on the piston to find top dead center to verify that my new balancer was phased in correctly and it all checks out.
The headers have been hot enough that when I pulled the headers out of the car the pressure against the heater box caved it in so I have just rebuilt the side of it.nonod:
I think I am about to give up on this and build a fresh 406 using the ported aluminum Corvette heads I already have, any input if I do decide to build the 406?
Thanks for the help. :
