The more I read the more confused I get. Had the rear jacked up tonite to deal with an exhaust issue and while it was up I grabbed the wheel at 12 and 6, rocked back and forth and there was a good 3/4 inch of play if not more. Then I tried hands at 3 and 9 and there wasn't any play. So off to the forum I went to look for an answer and as my first line says I'm not anymore sure of what is wrong than when I started. Anyone have any suggestions where to look or what it may be? Thanks!
The side yokes in the rearend are probably worn.Watch them when you grab the wheel and see if they ain't moving in and out.Just replaced both of mine for the same reason.
this is common among our cars it can be caused by the diff yolks sliding in and out. it also can be caused by loose shims or bushings on the trailing arm.

I have the same thing going on in my car. I have new Yokes and new C-clips all in the rear end is correct ,however that still could be your problem. with the 6 and 12 deal real slow lift up and down while watching where the half shaft hooks to the yoke how much play is there at that point if they are tight and dont move in and out very far I believe it will turn out to be wheel bearings or( and do both at the same time) trailing arm bushings (Use Rubber). One of my yokes had the clip busted for over a year it ran fine and drove fine it did make the clunk when you would go around the corner Hence broken clip letting the yoke slide in and out . when asked if thats a bad thing you will get a 50/50 good, bad, indifferent answer from the rear end Gurus but start by fixing the yokes if its needs it. Let us know what it turns out to be.
