I am planning to reform my hood this winter in prep for a new higher intake and like the one on this beauty and its functionality. I can do glass work and see no real problem to do one similar with my stock hood, but if anyone has anymore pics of custom hoods, I would like to see them. Thanks!
I have done a couple of others but not with glass hoods. So I plan to epoxy some supports across the area where I will cut for the scoop, then remove them when I am done so as not to allow for any movement of the hood during the process. Was your stinger added to a regular hood? And is it functional? If so I wonder if the hood flexed when it was grafted. I have contemplated the stinger hood I like the look real well.

You are all over the flexing part of grafting a hood scoop on. When I did my L88 hood I had a problem with one on the corners lifting higher than the other. I ended up clamping one end of the scoop down further and pouring more resin and laying matting on the inside of that end to get to level out. The car in your first post looks like glass just beautiful!
One thing about fabricated hoods, they tend to be heavy. I have a fab hood and can't wait to get rid of it. The hood I have to replace it (molded by ACI) has yo be 30 lbs. lighter.

Can you tell me what the color is? Mine is a similar color but needs repainting. Was done way before I bought it, and before the previous owner bought it. Looking back 15 years or so. I've guessed one color, but it was way off. Your help would be appreciated.
This photo looks much redder than it does in sunlight.
Sherman, set the Wayback to 1971. When dinosaurs ruled the earth.
I hope this photo comes out. 68 435 with 67 427 scoop grafted on. Next to my best buddy larry's SS454 Chevelle. We drove that cross country. Very quickly, I might add.
I'm doing the same thing to my 68 sb coupe. Which may get an L88, ZZ427, or ZZ454 heart transplant.

I don't anticipate any "heaviness" I plan to simply cut the hood and use the origal cut part to graft by adding angles, height and a cold air intake. I plan a bit more of a teardrop at the front than the one in the pic. I won't add a huge amount of weight that way.

Looks nice! Do you plan to fill the front to cover the wiper area?

This photo was taken before I installed the wiper door and grill both are in place now. The fact that it does not have a cold air box allows heat to enter the cowl when the car is not moving or is moving slow. I may end up "plugging" the opening as it can get hot.

The weight comes from all the mud to smooth things out

If body work is done properly there should be very very little floating needed. If it is so far off that it needs pounds of mud to fix, it will get redone. A very thin coat if any is all that may be needed, I really don't foresee needing much. I usually don't except to feather the edges.
Thats cool! Nice change to the Lt1 hood. I even dig the Baldwin Motionesque paint. I keep going back and forth on adding a motion stripe to mine when I paint. I really like the look, especially with a Le Mans gas cap.
