How can I tell if my brake system has regular DOT3 or silicon DOT5 brake fluid in it?
The previous owner said the car has SS caliers but didn't know whether or not silicon fluid was used.

Dot 3 will attack a painted surface, dot 5 won't. You could take a small about of brake fluid from your master cylinder and apply it to a painted piece of scrap metal and see what happens. Also dot 5 is purple in color when fresh, turning to yellow as it ages.
