It's ALWAYS somethin'........

Then I installed a stud kit for the headers, Hooker Supercomps-need I say more on that?
Using a hammer to install headers is just wrong. Then I bought the teeniest, tiniest air filter I could find. 6 1/2" diameter by 2" height. God damn hood will not close, lol

It's cause of the single plane intake, guess I'll be needing a new hood.
Looking at vfn and glasstek right now, any opinions?
Always somethin'...............

I have my stud cut down to minimal clearance height and my wing nut, wings trimmed down for clearance. I have seen guys close their hood only to find the air cleaner stud poking through their fresh painted hood. That has to hurt!!
If you can't get enough clearance to run an adequate air filter, you might dare to be different. A shaker hood might not look bad through a Corvette hood. The engine is off-set, so you would need to make a shaker air box that would center it through the hood. It wouldn't surprise me to find most of the materials available at Jeg's, Speedway, or Summit.
Good luck with finding required clearance.
The clearance issue is in the front part of the filter, the hood I have has a 2" cowl on it but it just slopes down in just the wrong spot, lol.
I do like the shaker hood idea, I ordered a carb mount scoop yesterday (ebay) and it looks to have some adjustment on it so I'm pretty confident that I will be able to center it to the hood (even if it takes little persuation).
I may even wind up using a 1"-2" carb spacer to get the height just right, that will give me plenty more room for the direct port nitrous set up I'll be running and little more performance to boot.

I switched to an air cleaner that had the filter media on top of the as well as the sides and has a 2" drop base.

1: you didnt need a stud kit
2: headers fit so well that they will fall all the way out if you don't sit them on something while you climb out from under the car.
If you yourself want to use normal style bolts in your aluminum heads on your car and risk cross threading that is your choice, this is my car and that was my choice.
I had a couple trouble spots on the headers, I'm not the first-won't be the last.

This is the intake I'm dealing with so you can see how high it is.
I have Aluminum heads also, I wasn't aware of a benefit of studs over bolts in Aluminum.
Some said studs instead of head bolts, but the ZZ4 came with bolts.

I bought a new airfilter base when I did my top end rebuild, but it didn't clear my hood, either, even after yanking out the insulation. So I took my stock base, and sawed off the side walls, making it an open element filter, and used that instead. Fits perfect.
