I have been working on the interior since Saturday, took the week off of work to accomplish this, and never realized what a major task it could be. I ripped out the center console, seats, rear compartments and of course the carpet and padding which was cemented to the floor panels. It took 2 days to scrape the floors to bare metal and paint them out with Rustolium. Then I put down the heat barrier and carpet which I ordered from ZIP via Custom Carpets. Both the barrier and carpet required a lot of trimming which I thought was odd since they said it was pre-cut. Now the front is done with the seats back in but I am waiting on UPS becuase Custom Carpet sent the box with a 80/20 loop rear T-piece and everything was the correct cut pile. I returned the T-piece and they sent me the correct cut-pile piece same day. All I need to do is is install the t-piece and put in the new custom speaker box and the new compartments (came from ZIP preassembled and worth every cent) and I'm done. So far my work looks as good or better then the professional interior jobs I've seen over the years (every part cleaned and polished before re-install). The La Mesa CA car show is tommorow (for you San Diego guys every Thursday 1600-2100) and she is ready to show!! Three years and 23K later. I am so excited! I hope the UPS guy gets here early tommorow morning so I make the show in time. See ya on the road!!
Thanks...They are actually off my 97 Z28 so you really don't need the spacers but I wasn't about to sell the rims/ tires with the Z so I had the spacers made for me by Vette brakes for about $300.00
Awesome man, do you think you can post some pics when you get it done? Also what condition were you floor panels in? Any rust or anything on them?
I wish I had thought of that before I placed the seats in but no big deal I can get some close-ups of the work. P.S. never ever cut square slits in the carpet for the seat frames. One they never line up and two the seat pulls up the slits every time you move the seat up or back. What I did is get an exacto knife and cut a small X over the bolt hole, not visible to the eye and just big enough for the seat bolt to pass through and the install looks so clean and perfect. Will post pics tomorw after t-piece goes in.
Your car looka awesome. Do post some interior pics soon. I am doing the same thing as you..ie, scraping the old jute from the birdcage. I have been cleaning my plastic interior pieces getting them ready for redying. Got my steering column apart rebuilding it also. I feel your pain but know what the end result will be :yesnod:
