Please excuse a rookie question, but I want to do this right... with no second guessing myself or worries later.
Just put a new timing set on my car, and fear that I installed the crank gear on too far against the block. After the cam gear/chain was installed, the cam lobes do not sit centered under the lifter galley's. They are a little back tword the rear of the motor. If I pull the crank gear out some, seems the lobes will be more centered under the lifters. Should there be a specific gap between the crank gear and block, which would pull the cam forward some out of the rear cam bearing? My service manual does not address this issue... thanks guys!!
The crank gear should be installed all the way against the flat machined on the crank snout. The cam lobes usually are not exactly centered in the lifter bore and usually are a little to the rear
WAHOOO... I did it right. I can put the rest back together... Thank you yellow 72. Sometimes I over analyze things and second guess myself. (first time tearing apart a Chevy)
