Automatic to manual transmission swap?
I'm getting a lot closer to starting this job, so far I've been gathering parts and trying to understand the process.
I'm going with a WC T5 transmission out of a 88-91 V8 Camaro. I've searched threads on this forum and spoken with a few people who have put T5's (Thank You) in their C3's I've reviewed docs some members have put together too. After reviewing that info I have a few specific questions related to not just going from a Muncie 4 speed manual to a T5 but more specifically people who have gone from automatic to manual and the extra steps needed there.
My questions are:
1. I understand the TH400 (I have today) uses a 168 tooth flexplate and I am going with a 168 tooth flywheel with my new clutch kit. I've seen people say you need to replace the auto-trans specific aluminum starter "head" with the cast-iron piece for a manual trans. Is this true? Can someone clarify?
2. What do I need for a yoke? I read that the TH400 yokes are 3.600. I am going with a WC T5 form a V8 Camaro and an 11 inch clutch kit (26 spline). Do I need a different yoke?
3. Exhaust bracket attached to crossmember, and park brake mechanism. Do I need different parts here since today I have a TH400 and I'm going to a T5?
4. Speedo cable? Can I use the same speedo cable from my TH400?
5. Driven Gear? What do I need to do here?
4. What about Lifting the car up for the trans swap. What is the best way to do this if you don;t have a auto lift? Are Jack stands enough, or metal/platic ramps under all 4 wheels? Or build the ramps out of wood as seen on "http://corvettec3.ca/ramps.htm" What have you guys done and what do you recommend?
Thanks for helping me make this dream a reality!!
