I just received my new Tach circuit board. When I installed it, the tachometer needle does not move. With my old board, I could turn the key and the tach would go back to 0. With the new one, it stays on 2,000 rpm all of the time. Is the new circuit board bad, or am I missing something on the instillation process?
I've never had mine apart - but make sure there's no 'binding' in the tach cable if it's mechanically driven..... that cable needs to be 'greased' if it's the original. :yesnod: :chevy :seeya
Check your tach filter (harness that runs from 'Tach' terminal on HEI to ground on right side of intake manifold and then thru firewall to tach harness). If it is loose or not connected, you may get a tach that doesn't move.
It the tach filter is missing, or the tach isn't hooked up to the distributer, you would still get movement. 1000 when off, 500 when cranking, 0 when running. It sounds like you missed something when you were putting the circuit board on, I'm just not sure what it was. How did the new one look compared to the old one?
i tried replacing mine with an after market at it moved the same as the old one..u have it in wrong which i doubt or they sent u a dud..ive heard this happen to others before..hope it works out
