I have been a Flowmaster fan since I started driving and have had them on just about everything I have owned. I have read and heard the clips about Magnaflows and I am not sold on them yet. Seems you have to have a high power motor at high RPM's to get good sound out of them. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Thrush welded mufflers? The look a lot like Flowmasters but at half the price. My '81 is just a weekend cruiser and stays garaged all the time. There were comments about their build quality but that was 3 years ago. My engine is the stock rebuilt bottom end but has Summit head and cam package plus Edelbrock EFI. I estimate its putting out around 300hp. I am planning to go to a true dual setup with Flow-tech ceramic coated headers, dual removable cats, an X-pipe, 40 series Flowmasters and just wanted everyone's input on these mufflers. I saw a thread from 2008 concerning Thrush mufflers but was wanting some more up to date info. Thanks!
I believe the HP difference in most turbo mufflers is neglidgeable. The small difference is at max rpm. I have Flows on my 68 L36 and don't really like 'em; while others swear by them. One thing for sure is they weigh about twice as much as many others (not so good). I like Walkers and cheapo muffler shop generics. Just my 2 cents. I'm sure you would be happy with the above exhaust system, especially if you like the sound of Flows...
The Thrush welded are the old Flowmaster series 30 models.
I hear Flowmaster let the Patent go and Thrush picked it up.
I ran a set on a 355 in a 72 Nova and have a brand new set sitting in the garage, I would use them.
I have Thrushs on my 79 right now. Its a factory 2-1-2 setup and they sound nice just not loud enough for me so im going to true dual exhaust this winter.
i hate the loud droning sound that you seem to get with flowmasters. it isnt bad if you're just doing short hops around town but on a long drive i end up with a massive headache
I was looking at these also on tuesday. There real cheap. I just installed long tube's on my true duals. and the car is still damn quiet. I want to hear a little old school rumble from this 350. !!
I've got Thrust Weldeds on my winter beater LT1 Caprice. They were the cheapest mufflers I could find when my previous mufflers rusted out, otherwise I wouldn't have used them(not a flowmaster fan, but thats just a personal preferance). No signs of rust on them yet, and they've been on for 2 years. I'd recomend them to anyone who's looking for the flowmaster without the flowmaster price.

If you install a x-pipe in your exhaust system ,it will do away with the drone.

VERY cool! i've always loved the sound of a car with an x-pipe. another system i was looking at was the Pypes Violator. it's between factory style side pipes, an under the car chambered exhaust with an x-pipe installed or the Pypes system fortunately, that point in time is a long ways off still. i'm shooting for late winter to early spring before it's ready for the road.

I run the pypes exhaust system with flowmaster 40s. I use to run a straight through exhaust system with flowmaster 40s and it droned really bad,now it doesnt with the pypes x-pipe system.

They are all copies of the original Corvair Turbo muffler from the 60's. Walker makes an excellent sounding turbo muffler in 2 sizes that are pretty reasonable.

The chambered mufflers being discussed in this thread are nothing like the Corvair turbo mufflers.
Also i have run both thrush welded and flowmaster and they both sound ok but the flowmaster sounds better,i think. i have also run cherry bomb pros ,flowmaster delta 40,flowtech terminators, pypes violaters and pypes street pros, dynomax ultra flows, on this vette .
