Default Exhaust Advice

I want to replace the true duals on my '75 with chambered exhaust. Will I benefit from headers (sound and power)? Long tube? All emissions are off the car and it has an Edlebrock Torker intake and Edlebrock 600 carb.

You don't normally see cars with aftermarket single plane intake manifolds running stock exhaust manifolds. What's it got for a cam, converter, and rearend ratio?

sidepipes, dude. always at least consider sidepipes on a C3.

they will rob your power a little vs conventional headers and undercar exhaust but man they just look cool.

It's all stock except for intake, carb and true dual exhaust. Has 3.36 rear. The Torker II came with the car and I'm guessing it's there for hood clearance. So will headers help at all with this setup?

Just get a dual plane intake and you see low end improvements!

Yeah, I gotta go along with TimH here, the first thing I would do to your car is get rid of that single plane intake. You can get an Edelbrock 2101 on ebay or craig's list for less than 50 bucks, or a new intake like this one for around 130 bucks:

Also, I personally think sidepipes are kinda dumb looking, but hey, it's a C3 vette. It's practically the only car that you can really run sidepipes on without looking like an idiot, so yeah, ya have to at least give it some consideration! I think they are dumb looking, and I am STILL thinking about 'em!!!!

What kind of shape is your exhaust system in right now? Does it have 2 1/2" pipe all the way out to the mufflers? If so, you can just cut 'em, have reducers welded on, and connect the headers to them. Here's a cheap set of headers that will fit nice, TimH has used 'em, and he says they fit nice and have no real problems.

Thanks for the input - I'm learning quite a bit. With the 2101 fit under the hood ok? Also, those Summit headers look good. My current exhaust is not in great shape - rather than paying someone to weld I'd just rather get a new chambered. On an L48 will headers add much HP wise? Again, thanks for the input.

Can't really quote any numbers, it's different from engine to engine, but yeah, headers are definitely worth doing, especially if combined with a nice 2 1/2" exhaust system and mufflers, or chambers in your case. And a 2101 Performer is only, like, 1/4" taller than a stock Q-jet manifold, almost exactly the same as a Torker. Are you sure about the chambered exhaust? I've never heard a chambered exhaust with my own ears, but people say they are pretty darn loud.

Loud is good in my case - it may not be mean, but it will sound mean.

How about mean instead? The issue is chambered is restrictive & a crossover pipe may help more than headers. Yes, 2101 fits & previous 2101 is best.

Headers, duals & low restriction mufflers rec.

A question on replacing the intake manifold, for removal of the distributor, do I need to mark TDC? Just mark the rotor?

Take the cap off and see where the rotor is pointing and try to remember that and install it back the same direction it was pointing.
