Iv'e read Lars article about springs and weights. I recently bought a new HEI with an adjustable advance setting which is set by a small hex head in the hose connection at the advance. Since I can set it this way does this take place of the weight and springs being installed? Thanks in advance.
The answer is No. I believe you are mixing vacuum advance (the allen wrench in the vacuum cannister) with mechanical advance (springs, weights and travel) in the body of the distributor. They are 2 different things for 2 different purposes (load and RPM).

Has anybody installed the springs and weights themselves, is it fairly easy or should I have a pro do it? Also what kits and from where did you get. I have a 350, 1975. Thanks

As mentioned that's for setting vacuum advance. Before you start making adjustments, have you already mapped out your ignition curve to see where you are first?

It's pretty much straight forward. If you read the article then do it. Not much to mess up on. Just take it step by step. If you feel like your getting in over your head - take pic's of your process. Then you can always back trace with the pic's.
