is there a way to test the electric compressor clutch on a '72 system?
do i just put power to the terminal, and should it lock up or i feel a drag?
does the rest of the system need to operational?

If you put power to it you should hear the click of the clutch. Clutch w/ power on & belt on lock up.
You can try to turn the center part to see if the comp. is locked up first.
