Default Why in the grass?

Why is it that people take pics in the grass, it seems sort of unnatural to me...like a shark out of water...I'm not knocking it or anything just want to know what the draw is.

It makes for a much more interesting picture than a parking lot.

You need an even, consistent foreground so it doesn't distract from the subject. It is more difficult to find an uninterrupted piece of concrete or asphalt. If you notice the car ads, they use concrete but it's usually wet and completely free of marks (water hides a lot but not paint). Typically they rent an airport ramp. Grass is for us po' folks.

I think a shiny vette on the grass makes a nice contrast

Basic photographic techniques. Contrast the colour of the vehicle with the background. In this instance the beige with the corresponding earth tones of the trees and grass. A soft image. If you wish to be more aggressive go with asphalt such as a highway or drag-strip. Others prefer a background of water and a yacht club: richess. And of course hooters or bikinis: the macho/sex theme. The photo tells a story of what the photographer is trying to project; either of him/herself or the vehicle.

The pic below was taken last October. It projects several things. The beauty of a C3, the wonderful autumns and colourful foliage we have in Canada, and to me, a photo I can enjoy while my 1979 sits in commercial storage for five months in the winter.

EXACTLY!! Couldn't have said it better myself. When I took my 'new' sig pic, the driveway was all covered with crud and the grass was nice and even & consistent for a background.

Many Manf. incl. Chevy have photoed cars in grass. Always seemed to me another reason is to make the car esp. sports cars appear even lower.

Water gives a reflection so it's good.

God gave us beautiful grass, and allowed us to enjoy wonderful cars. Don't get me wrong I like concrete, when the ground is wet and the path is beatin, but grass does look better. :yesnod:

Well that explains that. Never really thought about the photographic technique issues involve with it... Guess I just always assumed that cars are usually at home on some type of pavement .: pics would normally be there too. Always liked the grass pics but never really understood why. Of course, vettes look good no matter where they are (except of course in a junkyard).
Thanks for the replies, they answered my question AND I got to see some gratuitous Vette pics as a result
