Last week I installed a new distributor, cap, and coil. Now there is a very audible spark from number 8. Pulling the wire off does not stop the spark and neither did using a different cap. If you put a mechanics' stethoscope to the base of the number 8 post you can hear it loud and clear. It seems to be beneath the cap and its only on number 8. Any ideas/suggestions for the cause?
Are you sure you have the dist. cap seated properly on the dist.?
Pretty sure. When it went on the car the cap had not been taken off since buying it (new) and then I put on another cap my neighbor had and it still had the spark.
Is the rotor seated properly? Check inside the cap for abnormal wear marks.
.
Pretty sure its seated right, no signs of abnormal wear. Stopped by my Corvette mechanic today and he loaned me a new coil to test out. Hopefully I will be able to switch them this evening.
Discovered this to be the culprit. Decided to put in the coil from the distributor I took out because I knew it wasn't sparking. Also put in the spring and rubber ring and started the car and no sparking. I then put the brand new coil back in and started it up again and still had no spark.
