Has anyone had any problems with Mcjack headers warping. I bought a set of short headers from a forum member and today I took them to a muffler shop for install. The shop owner called me later and he could not get the headers sealed properly and checked them with a straight edge and found the warping. The muffler guy thought the metal on the headers was too thin where they bolted to the heads. It does not appear these headers were abused by the previous owner. Any thoughts are ideas are appreciated.
I have had mine for 4 years and not had a problem with the header flange sealing to my stock 882 cast iron heads. The header flange on my set is pretty thick/beefie!
Thanks everyone for the replies. To gdh, the headers are stamped McJacks and the forum member said they were McJacks however, sometimes I know how that goes. I don't believe for 1 minute the forum member duped me, but I am a very trusting person. And to driveshaft, I think this is where the warping is. I will definately get in touch with McJacks and see if they can be salvaged.
I will thanks. This is what the muffler shop showed me. Muffler guy also said this is common with cheap headers. I almost choked. I told him they might look cheap to him but in no way cost wise were they cheap.
For sure. This guy has never worked on my vette but has worked on some of my company vehicles. The muffler shop that installed true duals on my vette also does a lot of muscle car and rod work but is always bitching about the problems that go with headers. He is getting sort of old (probably my age). His ideas about headers is kind of odd since a lot of his work load is with cars that might want headers. But maybe thats why he thinks like he does.
in the pics the headers dont look bad .when i was racing when the headers warped i would cut them between the clyinders .they always sealed up.i would call mcjacks and ask them what gaskets they would do.http://www.summitracing.com/search/D...FaYDQAodN0AcTg

Jack has his own gaskets and is a great guy that backs his product, Trust me I know.
I have sent the forum member I bought them from two messages being very careful not to accuse him of intentionally selling me a bogus part. However after two messages and no response, I'm starting to wonder if he did know.I have also sent an e-mail with pictures to Jack at McJacks to see if he feels anything can be done to salvage these headers. Terry82 had a good suggestion and I might have to try it if nothing else works.
Yeah, actually Jack did not think the warping was hat bad and said he could try to work with them but he wouldn'n guarantee any success plus He would have to charg for the work. In he meantime, I got with another muffler shop and am going to get the car to him this comming week. The shop owner feels he can do something with it. By the way, the forum member contacted me and did offer to give me a refund if things don't work out right. Thanks for everyones help.
