Default Carpets & Seat Belts

I have a 74 C3 coupe that I am replacing the carpeting.

Bubba did the last carpet install !!!!!!!!!!!!

I looked in the GM 74 C3 assembly manual and its hard to tell if the carpet should cover the seat belt assembly or if the seat belt assembly should be mounted on top of the carpet. I do have a plastic cover that was covering the seat belt assembly.

So the question is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does the carpet cover the seat belt assembly ??????

or

Should the seat belt assembly be mounted on top of the carpet and covered with the plastic cover.

I saw a 77 C3 coupe tonight and the plastic cover was on top of the carpet !!!!!!!!

Bill

On my 34000 mile 72 with its original carpet, the seat belt assembly is bolted directly to the floor and there isn't any carpet or padding between it and the floor. The carpet has been factory cut so that the lip of the plastic seat belt cover just catches it and holds it in place. My friend tried to keep his carpet uncut and when he installed his carpet and seat belt, the retractor kept getting hung up on the carpet. Once he made the cutout his belts worked normally. I ASSUME that this would be the same for a 74. If you just do a visual inspection, the seat belt appears to be on the carpet but it should be cut out for at least the early sharks.
