Default Intake manifold max height

I have a 69 coupe with original 350 hood. 388 stroker roller setup, but still original L46 intake and Jetted Q-Jet. I figure I will need 1" or more drop base filter and I want to go with single plane (Team G 7530 is only 4.09" to carb pad or shortest Vr. Junior) or high RPM dual plane like Weiand air strike and Holly 750. I don't want to modify or change hood. Does anybody know how tall I can get (carb pad height) before running into problems? On the same note, does anyone know the carb pad height on the original intake #3927184 is?

With a Performer RPM or a Weiand "Air Strike" you will need to run a deep dropped air cleaner base and a 2" tall filter to clear the hood.
Per Holley's published data, the 7530 Team G is actually about 1/2" shorter than the RPM, so you could run a bit more filter height.

There is minimal clearance w/ the std. flat hood so the 7530 would be best single plane if it can be fitted. 2nd 2101 would work in a dual plane. The LT-1 hood provides minimum clearance for hi rise intakes.
There needs to be at least about 3/4" clearance over the Holley vent tubes.

I have been thinking that is probably the way to go. My hope is that it won't sacrifice a ton of torque down low compared to the dual plane. The car is a 4 speed so power band starting at 2800 shouldnt be too bad.

FYI There is another intake about stock height that would work w/ either Q-J or Holley, the discontinued Weiand 7525 Street Ram single plane esp. if you like the Q-J.
I would go for the 7530 & Holley.

I think the Weiand X-CELerator 7547-1 is the shortest of the single planes at 3.5" and the band is 1500 to 6500 like Edelbrock RPM, but single plane instead of dual. Anyone run one of these?

I dont know anyone who has run that intake, but in general tiny flat plenums like that dont work well.
I would expect better performance out of either of the other intakes you asked about.

Were the earlier C3 hoods shorter than the later years?

I use the x-cellerator with the voodoo 60104 cam from lunati.

About 2000 rpm, engine runns like a `bag of potato` but from 2000-6000 and mor, it runns very strong.

The x -cellerator is a little bit radical, dat`s way i use a 4 hole spacer.
In combination of a 4 speed trans. It works.

The answer of your question, yes i like the x-cellerator.

I have a similar setup (383) in a 69 with stock small block hood and run a Victor Jr., 750 Holley Double Pumper (no choke or choke tower), and dropped air cleaner without problems. You're welcome to come by anc take a look this weekend. I'll PM you my info.

How much of a drop base did you have to run? Any other provisions? I appreciate the info - I'll try to touch base with you when I have an opportunity.
