Default 1973 fuel sending unit

I purchased a new fuel sending unit from Ecklers and installed it in the tank. I put 8 gallons of gas into the empty tank and the gauge reads full. Driving around corners the gauge moves but then goes to full again. Any ideas? Bad fuel sender?
Thanks John

Check the ground connection to the frame for corrosion

Ground is good, I used a tester to verify it (circuit pen light tester). The gauge moves as the gas moves in the tank.

Use an ohmmeter to check the resistance of the sending unit when the float is moved up and down. That will tell you if the sending unit is bad.

Check all wire connectios, could be a bad sending unit, or maybe faulty gauge.
