Hi i have a 77 gas tank im working on.
1. what is the point of the bladder?
2. Do i need it?
3. How does sending unit work?
4. What is the talk about going from bottom with line?
The bladder is to contain the fuel in case of rear end collision, it also makes the seal for the sender unit. I'd leave it in there is it's not messing up.
The sender sends a ground value to the fuel gauge to tell it how much fuel is in the tank. The float works a rheostat (variable resistor) that should read between 0 ohms at empty and 90 (I think) when full. I had to take mine apart and bend things to make it give the correct readings.
"What is the talk about going from bottom with line?"
huh?
I would definitely keep the bladder. I believe it was a federal mandate that these be installed by the manufacturer to prevent fuel spillage in the event of an accident. Being fiberglass, these cars can burn to the ground in no time.
Thanks im not sure but i read somewhere about puting a fuelpump or something like that. Thanks for the response.
You may have been reading about installing an electric fuel pump on bottom feeds for a fuel injection conversion. Lots of threads and discussions about that.
Yes, I think when they are talking about running out the bottom, they have removed the complete spare tire assembly, would even have to cover the rear area if racing, to stop the drag of the taillight section. I have seen electric fuel pumps bolted to the side of the out side frame, beside the gas tank on the rear of the car. Have a great day. GEne
