Default Any known issues using tall valve covers??

Needed more room for roller rockers (1.6 scorpions) Does anyone know of any clearance issues with A/C compressor or anything else in engine bay. Or has anyone put these under stock aluminum valve covers?

The only problem I've ever had running taller than stock valve covers on a small block chevy is, it made it a real PITA to get at the distributor hold down bolt.

You will need the tall covers for sure.

I couldn't use them because they were too close to the alternator.
What type of performance rocker will fit under a stock valve cover?

I have tall valve covers on my '79. I think the only issue I had was with the alternator. I had to use a longer alternator belt, and I'm almost out of adjustment. Making a longer adjustment brace is still on my list of things to do.

And you WILL need them to clear your roller rockers.

I put tall valve covers on my and i had an issue with the alternator. I needed to purchase a different bracket from summit. Hopefully you can see it. I purchsed the kit and purchased a longer bar the whole thing was 140.00.

Are you sure you need taller valve covers to clear your rockers? I have these Crower stainless roller rockers under stock L98 valve covers. All I had to do was remove the oil drippers to make them fit.

Finished engine with stock valve covers.

I hope this helps

I use 1.6 roller rockers with the standard valve cover also.

I run 1.6's under stock cast covers. I use a tall metal/rubber valve cover gasket

Thanks guys for the responses, I think I'm going to try the stock covers 1st. I was just trying to not have to order a set and not fit. My old ones were the stamped steel so I dont have a used one to check for clearance. Anyone near Winston Salem, NC have a used one I could borrow??

I had to run taller covers with mine and had trouble with the A/C compressor clearing them, had to machine out the bracket slightly so it would have enough adjustment to clear them. It comes pretty close to the hood now but doesn't touch. If you don't have A/C then no problem, my alternator cleared OK although very close.

Weight and oil cools the valve springs. The limitation of lift and flow way back then was the lack of good valve springs and heavy setups.

I was in high school and we took that crap off our double hump heads and used machined retainers just like Smokey

Did it ever occur to you why new LS heads have even smaller valve stems?
Thanks for the unsolicited, unwelcome criticism George. If I had wanted your opinion about my valve setup I would have asked for it. Please keep your rude comments to yourself.

This thread was about the fit of stock rocker covers over roller rockers, not a critique on my engine. I was merely trying to help the OP, not have people knock my efforts.

I have my stock covers over my rollers on my 1969 L 46 and love the look I retained using Pro Comp Al heads. Know that some have strong objections about Pro comp but I like the look and kept my original covers. Performance is great.
