Went to the DMV on Friday to get my new (to me) Corvette registered here in California, and the darn people couldn't find the second VIN#. 'Tore out half my carpet, pulled out my rear gloves boxes, had three of them swarming the car... nothing. So no Official registration. They did take my money though. I thought there was a second one on the frame somewhere... they refused to investigate further. The one on the driver side behind the windshield was very faded. What ever "sticker" near the door well has long ago disintegrated. Now I have to make an appointment to visit the California Highway patrol office. One of the last places I would like to spend some time. I'm sure the CHIP's are whizzes at finding more VIN's- but I would like to give them a heads up anyway. Maybe ingratiate myself a little. There's probable some obvious locations I missed, but the DMV people couldn't think of any additional??? :mad :D
Hi
on my 72 the VIN number is also stamped into the top of the frame just behind the drivers side rear wheel near the rear body mount. It is difficult to see but ten minutes with a small wire brush and maybe some grit-paper should reveal it.
I also understand that there is one on top of the frame beneath the drivers seat, but unless you take the body off you cant see it.
Hope this helps
David
Why were they searching for the second VIN number? How about the one on the WS frame? When we transfer a title here in Maryland, it's a paperwork deal. You don't have to bring the car. David's correct as to the location of the frame VIN. You'll have a tough time seeing it. Proceed cautiously here, as I see a state issued VIN in your future, and that will absolutely kill the value of your car. Chuck
WTF - are you serious?
If you have a title and the VIN tag is intact then that should be all they need. Maybe they were suspect of the car for some reason? ALL they need here is a title.
They were looking for those door jamb stickers?? I guess they are well trained hey. The only places there will be VINs is on the windshield post, 2 places on the frame (both hard to see), and possibly on the engine. BUT none of that should matter anyway!
