Default Lets talk weather pack connectors.

I just got my order from Hi Po Garage and the 10-12 gauge weather packs look exactly like the 14-16 gauge packs - only the color of the seals is different (blue for 10-12 and grey for 14-16). I was trying to see if the pin connector from the 10-12 gauge pack would fit into the 14-16 tube connector and it did. But looking at the wire hole on the connectors both look the same size???. The plastic housings are exactly the same as they came all together. But the pin & tube connectors came in different bags and marked for gauge - but i can't physically see any difference in wire hole size. And thats the problem i have now is i tried to squeeze too large gauge wire into too small size pin connector. So i ordered larger size connectors but they look exactly the same. Am getting ripped off??
Also do i need a fancy crimper for these connectors? The catalog had the 14-16 gauge crimpers a reasonable $30 but the 10-12 gauge crimper is 100 bucks!! But i think i read i can use a common Molex type criper. Anyone tried this with a Molex crimper?

I had ordered a set of around 100 pcs a few years ago and seem to remember the same thing.

I had a set of spark plug crimp pliers that had the correct style crimp notch for the weather pack, worked good for me. The pliers were a cheap set I got from Speedway Motors.

I used a weather pack connector on a 10 ga wire, don't remember what circuit it was but it was a high amp draw and melted the connector. I've started soldering all high load connections.

The plastic housings are the same for all wire sizes. The opening size is for the wire seals, which have the same OD but different ID, hence the color coding. It is the same with the pins. The male and female ends are the same size regardless of wire diameter. The crimp ends are different sizes where the jaws go around the wire and wire seals.

Default Ok, so i got what a paid for it seems.

MrForce, i read like the stripped piece of wire only goes up to the tunnel on the pin & barrel connectors - not into the tunnel at the crimp end (that tunnel looks like something should go in it). I read the stripped wire just lays in the open crimp area until metal is crimped over it. Yes?
Well its good to know all the housings are the same size and all pins will work together - this way i can mix wire sizes. I know i'm connecting 2 different sizes as it is.

77, the reason i refered to Molex connectors as they use 2 different crimps on each wire - first crimp over the stripped wire and second over the insulated section of wire (if wire is cut correctly). Well i have so many different crimers now that i will just try and see with what i got. Weather packs are fairly cheap. But so are the pin tools used to extract the pins - busted one already.

Thx for info guys, u have both helped a lot with this,
