Default Removing engine driven fan?

I have seen where some owners have removed the belt driven radiator fan and just used the electric radiator fan; are there other "things" that must be done in order to do this?

My electric fan comes on and I assume is running most of the time now since I installed aluminum heads.

That’s an aux. fan & does not do much. I have the later C3 electric fan & shroud. It won’t help enough to cool mine even w/ a 5 blade HD clutch fan.

A topic may need to be done to see if anyone found a stronger replacement for the factory C3 electric fan that mounts in the shroud used in later years.

I have removed the stock fan all together and installed a dual Flex a Lite electric fans. They are the best thing. Last year on the hot Rod Power Tour the temp reached 106* Temp never went over 180*

Same here. Dual shrouded fans only on a three-row aluminum Chamption radiator I bought on eBay. Mine come on a@ 195 degrees. Temp never goes above 200 degrees.

If GM could have eliminated the mechanical fan, they would have done it. They did not figure it out until the C4s. You have to remember not all C3s have the auxiliary electric fan; 79 and 80 L-82 AC cars and all 81-82s.

You're in Arizona. Do you want to run without the stock fan?

My '81 has both fans and seems to work just fine...never gets above 200 on the gauge.
I was just wondering how others have removed the belt driven fan and just used the aux electric fan....but perhaps the pictures did not show enough detail in that they had replaced the aux fan with dual electric fans...which would make sense.

I will have to go back and see if I can find those engine pictures that I saw and am referring to.

At this time I will keep both fans on...unless the time comes when the temp start increasing. I also need to check the accuracy of my temp gauge.

I converted to an electric fan mostly because when I bought my car the factory fan shroud was missing. Considering I was able to pick up an electric fan and shroud for $30 from the pick-and-pull, the choice was a no brainer.

Dewitts with Dual SPAL fans, first upgrade I did when I bought my car. Completely eliminated all heating issues. It was hotter than Hell in Houston this summer, never had any issues.

I installed a new factory radiator a few years ago when I was doing my "restoration", so throwing that out and going with a DeWitts and fans is just not going to happen unless a problem develops with this radiator.
I have the fan shroud and seals around the radiator that I got from Dr Rebuild, so unless a problem comes-up....guess I will be keeping the stock setup.

And the summers here in Tucson are quite hot.
