Default Carb/Idle Issue

I have a carb question.

I have 454 with a holley carb #7002-1. Apparently this is a double pumper, vacuum 650 cfm.

Anyway, the car idles rough, especially right after startup. It also doesn't seem to not have the power that it should.

I just got the headers replaced and a new exhaust system installed. 2.5" all the way back. It almost seems like it is "missing".

Plugs, wires and timing were recently replaced/corrected but it still doesn't run quite the way it should.

I recently found out that my battery needs to be replaced but that wouldn't effect how it actually runs, right?

I guess what I'm asking is will rebuilding my carb fix the problems I am experiencing or does it sound like there is more wrong?

Should be a 650 spreadbore vac. sec.
"missing"
Check that wires 5 & 7 are not run together, well separated & cross.
It's possible it has more cam than stock giving it a loping idle. See

It doesn't seem to only be at idle. It "misses" all the way to WOT. I will check the wires when I get home. It seems like some of the wire boot on 5 has been burned by the header but I don't think it was any more than a surface burn.

Park the car in the dark, open the hood, and look for arcing from the plug wires to the block, or some other ground.

The power valve could be leaking. Holleys have been known to suffer this malfunction. Remove carb and remove power valve cover, if there is gas in the cover the valve is bad. That side of the valve is only supposed to see vacuum.
Good Luck.

Are you sure you have the wires to the correct plugs? I had two switched on my LS4 once, and it behaved like yours. Might have got messed up with the header install (is that when this started?).

If the alternator is bad, and your battery is weak, it could be that, though you would know it when it eventually died and would not start.

Blockage in your new exhaust would do it.

It did it before the install but its more pronounced after.

My battery is weak but the alternator seems ok and it starts without trouble most of the time. If it has been sitting for a week or so it may need a jump but it will start on its own anytime after that. That is the battery and I will replace it shortly.

I was wondering about the blockage angle but that doesn't seem to be the case. I will double-check though.
