Well I finally recieved my new BBC Brodix heads, lost, miss placed, thankfully turned up!
I bolted a head on, no head gasket turned th engine over.
There were some small intake valve marks in the "play dough" but all looks safe.....
perhaps too safe!
Squish looks like about .025 with no head gasket!
I have a Felpro set with a .039 gasket, thinking I should be going with a thinner gasket??
What do the engine experts think
Pistons are TRW closed chamber with domes, heads are Brodix Race rite rect ports
If your piston deck height is .025" in the hole, you will want to run a thinner head gasket.
Cometic makes a gasket that is .027", but its pricey. The best price i have seen is at Flatlander and they are about $80 each.
The only thing thinner is a steel shim which really shouldnt be used with aluminum heads, though its been done.
40 thou should be the min on the intake valves. Double that on the exhaust side. Sounds like you're fine but did you slice the clay to see the thickness?
I'm with DS, get the thinner gaskets to get your quench in the .05-0.055" quench range.
