I am a new member. I am installing a 350 motor in an L-48 and I want to use the oem distributor / quadrajet / and hood. I have two
questions: 1. What specific intake manifolds will clear the 78 hood? 2. What specific air cleaner will clear the hood and offer the maximum air supply? My original post was hard to read and it was requested that I rewrite it. Thank you.

am build.\buying a 300hp at the wheel motor w\Dart iron heads(2.02) 78 l48\auto\3:55 gears using oem dist-qjet-hood. 3 days search. threads. .no racing- lo end power & pep. 1.can the orig iron man. be used or does it kill the power?2.will the EPS perf. man. (EDL2701) work & allow use of orig breather?3.does orig. breather allow eng. to get enuf air?4. if this combo wont work willyou offer specific man\bre. combos w\ name\pt. # that will?ie what is best\shortest man.? dont want a $3000 hood! rather tell me?ph 2519455735 know this is rehash for many of u but i have searched. ive been street rod. last 41 yrs-never had hood issues- 28 desoto truck 350tpi & 29 des. 4dr 350 ramjet. new to this forum & maybe 1 day i will have an ans. 4u. was afraid id run out of room. i thank u 4 ur time & patience. lookin to avoid hood issues but really need specifics. dont want motor to be doggy at lo rpm. this is a lo miles mahogany\mahogany 78 but ive got a leak. head gasket so i will properly store upgrade the motor. been following this forum 4 months now & review. old threads. yall (ALA.) are a pretty sharp bunch & im glad to be amongst u. thanks again
I stuck with it, just for the heck of it, and about all I can get from it is that you bought an engine, and you want to know what intake manifold and air cleaner combo you can fit under the low stock hood, because you have mostly been dealling with old-*** cars that have so much room under the hood that it was never an issue.
Well, I'll tell you this much, you can get an Edelbrock Performer in almost anywhere, using an aftermarket dropped base air cleaner. I have this combo on my '80, and I have less than an inch to spare, using a 3" filter. The '78 is supposed to have a scrid more room under the hood, not sure how much, but you might be able to squeeze an Edelbrock Performer RPM under there, If I am not mistaken, it is only about 3/4" taller than the Performer.
