Hi all, I recently replaced my power steering pump on my 78. The rebuilt one works when cold. But after driving for 15 minutes i get a loud noise and the steering wheel vibrates when turning. Thanks for any help you might be able to give. Wally
Is it possible that I have air in the system or that I am creating foam and that is not allowing the fluid to circulate in the system after its warm? Wally

Re: Power Steering Help (1978PaceCar)
I let my 79 set for about a week and never had a problem with air. Maybe try letting your car set for a little while. I am getting ready to put power steering on my 70 model in the next few weeks. We`ll see if this methos works on this car also.
If it's foaming you should be able to see it on the dipstick or in the reservoir. Did you bleed the system by turning the wheels all the way to one stop and the back to the other stop? Do this a couple of times with the engine running. See if that helps. Be sure the fluid level is correct.
I replaced all my PS stuff recently and had a sever shimmy and wheel centering problem until I adjusted the conrol valve which completely smoothed out the shimmy.
If you didn't mess with control valve as prevoiusly mentioned you might need to "bleed" the system which I did by jacking up the front end and going lock to lock numerous times ;)
If you have been driving your car regularly, all the air should be gone by now.
Do you have the return line attached correctly to the pump? It is possible for a low pressure line to actually suck in air but yet be secure enough that it won't leak oil.
The hose should be pressed on the reservoir tube one inch past the bump on the end. A screw clamp or a one-eared clamp should be attached on the hose between the bump and the reservoir.
