Depends on the setup, can run the Performer & similar w/ stock air cleaner.
The 76-79 med. rise hood allows the Victor Jr, RPMs & others on SB w/ aftermarket dropbase filter & Holley.
Thanks for the quick response. Since I have just started the look for a crate motor (I read about the height issue for the manifolds) do you have any motors that you would recommend for the 79r that will be used mostly as a weekend and/or short trip vehicle?
I have looked at Summit/Jeggs/YearOne for crate motors. Also, it seems that a Vortec motor wont work because the intakes are too high.
Yes, the Vortec intake will work w/ 76-79 med. rise hood w/ aftermarket dropbase filter & Holley. I am for building the engine.
You can post links & trans., if auto. a higher stall converter may be needed.
Great information....so focused on the motor didnt think of the affect on anything else. Will keep the converter info in the back of my head. Wasnt looking to build a motor just trying to get the most HP for the best $$ (that is why the crate engine) I do like the Vortec so I probably should do a little more research before I buy or rebuild. Thanks again. This is my first go round so I want to make sure I get everything covered before I start spending.
