Default new here with a 79 vette

so i just bought a 79 stingray tonight, with a brand new 383 stroker and 700r4 trans with only 50 miles on both. body has 24,591 original miles. motor was dynoed at 550 to the crank. first thing i want to do is side pipes, but ive heard some are better than others, any input? also looking to make a little more power or let the engine use its power better any thoughts on this? i would figure all this out myself but all i know is camaros and ls motors

If I were you aside from getting sidepipes if thats what you want, I would just drive and enjoy. With that much HP your probably already having trouble getting hooked up as it is without some drag tires.

ill post pictures when i get the car , have to drive to alabama to pick up the car this weekend. but yeah the car sat in some guys garage for 19 years, then the guy im buying it from picked it up and tore out the motor and trans and had a 383 and trans custom built for the car. then wife told him he had to sell it, so in comes me and now its mine. i plan on letting the car see what its missed the past 19 years. like my wife said its actually sad to have a beautiful machine like that and let it sit in the dark for 19 years. at least someone came along and fully restored it.

I would drive it for a season first before I change anything. Your tastes may change after a few shows and some miles. I know mine sure did."

yea im thinking it will probably be fast enough on my own. my current dd is a full bolt on ls1 camaro ss, so its not like im going from some 4 banger 1.6 to a v8 6.2. but between i should feel plenty of gain in weight difference alone, seeing how this stingray has an aluminum block, driveshaft, heads, etc. pulled up weight for the 79 and i got somewhere between 3400-3500 pounds but i believe that was with an iron block with iron intake/driveshaft/heads.

First, you don't have a stingray. Second, I would just drive and enjoy for a while. With that much HP I would concentrate on what needs your attention the most. How's the interior, suspension, or body work?
